Carpal tunnel is the condition which affects the median nerve in your wrist and can cause symptoms in the thumb and the first three fingers. The median nerve and several tendons travel through a small tunnel from your forearm to your hand and if there is even a small amount of swelling it can affect the median nerve.
Numbness and/or tingling in the forearm, wrist and fingertips
Weakness and pain in the thumb and first three fingers.
Our physical therapists can help reduce these symptoms by using massage, therapeutic modalities, manual therapy techniques, taping, strengthening and stretching exercises and may fit you for a wrist brace. They can also teach you proper wrist positioning to help relieve stress on the median nerve so that you can avoid carpal tunnel surgery.
