How to Stay on Track During the Holidays

Can you believe it’s that time of year already? The hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, Hoiday parties, traveling, and spending time with family.  It is always such a busy time of year and it is so common to ignore your regular fitness and nutiriton routine. Read below for some tips and tricks to be ahead of the game come New Years Resolution time!
Schedule Exercise
Schedule your workouts, just like you would schedule a cookie exchange with your friends. Put it on your calendar, so there are no excuses. Can’t make it to the gym? Try a workout at home. Talk with your Physical Therapists regarding which exercises are best for you, and for an idea of what you can do when traveling!
Build in Splurges
There is no need to completely deprive yourself of all the Holiday treats.  Instead of eating 5 cookies in your break room, have 1. Going to a holiday party? Snack on some vegetables or protein beforehand. This way you will be full on healthier options, but can still enjoy some treats.
Stay Hydrated
There may be more cocktails tempting you this time of year. Again, enjoy some, but have a plan! Drink a glass of water for every cocktail or alcoholic drink. Keep in mind, the general guideline to follow is to drink six 8-ounce glasses of water each day. Staying hydrated will help to ward off fatigue, headaches, muscle cramps and dizziness. One of the easiest things to pay attention to is the color of your urine- pale and clear means that you are hydrated!

Get Your Sleep  

Taking care of yourself is always important, but even more so this time of year. Along with exercise and eating healthy foods, sleep is key; The Mayo Clinic recommends 7-9 hours a night.
